Year of Completion:
An existing house in a gated community had to be tailored to the needs of a family of five (including a small child). While the site was in a good condition, the spaces were small vis-à-vis functional requirements. The first step entailed liberating these hemmed-in volumes and re-tailor the programme such that spaces amalgamated with each other, while retaining individuality. The base of the interior application was rendered in different shades of white to give the spaces a sense of comfort and peace. The provision of small courtyards at different points within the spatial programme enhanced the ambience. The material palette embraced both exotic and local elements. Vibrant overlays were added to the understated base to infuse vitality. Surfaces were given textural qualities and some were teamed with brass (in the form of inlays and furniture hardware such as handles) for a rich, nuanced aesthetic.
