This retreat-like home, sprawling across XX acres and located in XXX, endeavours to create a living environment in which nature plays a large role. Indeed, the succinct client brief specified a home that would create a feeling of tropical living, a paradise-like space suffused with greens, indulgent semi-shaded areas and a serene indoor ambience that was connected to the lush surroundings.

The masterplan is dominated by a large central courtyard circumscribed by a ring-like roofed pathway that also connects the scattering of living areas around this primary feature. Mixed with enclosed volumes, open decks settled amidst groupings of tropical vegetation — a mix of grasses, shrubs and trees; and plants with attractive foliage and flowers — create spots for open-to-sky gatherings. In addition to these congregational spots, the built-form includes several semi-enclosed areas that allow occupants to commune with nature comfortably. The pitched roof-line, dominated by Mangalore tiles, lends a vernacular look.
